At La Cremosa, our journey began with a dream shared by three friends, David, Sandro, and Mauro, who sought to bring a piece of Italy to South Africa. Born from the heart of Rome’s Trastevere district, La Cremosa draws on over 40 years of experience in artisan gelato-making from David’s family, renowned for their beloved gelato shop, La Fonte della Salute.
Our adventure started in September 2014 with our first handmade batch in Newtown, sold at the vibrant Maboneng market. Since that warm Sunday, La Cremosa has continued to grow, opening its first location in Dainfern Square and expanding ever since.

Our Story
Our story began in 1981 in Rome, when Roberto, David’s father, opened a small gelato shop that would soon become one of the city’s most beloved spots for gelato throughout the 80s and 90s. That little shop was more than just a business; it was our playground, a place where we tasted our first scoops and dreamed about the future.
For over 30 years, Roberto crafted an expertise in gelato-making, creating unique recipes and refining techniques that he passed down to us. From him, we learned that to make truly exceptional gelato, we must start with the highest quality fruits, chocolate, nuts, and milk.
We carry forward this commitment, crafting our gelato with carefully selected ingredients and time-honored processes that have been perfected over decades. Today, we bring you the taste of our heritage—authentic, Italian gelato made the way it was meant to be.
